Phenadrine Xtreme is another OTC (over-the-counter) phentermine alternative diet pill created by Biogen. It is supposed to help those seeking to lose weight by providing them with extreme thermogenesis, appetite control and long-lasting energy. The product’s fat burning formulation is based on the “latest scientific research”, claims the official product page. While this is an impressive claim, taking a look at the formulation is the only way to know how accurate the claims are that have been made about this dietary supplement for weight loss.
According to the supplement facts information for Phenadrine Xtreme that have been provided on the official Biogen website, 3 capsules make up one serving size. Each serving size contains the following: Green Coffee Bean extract (200mg), Natural Caffeine (200mg), Chromium Polynicotinate (200µg), Capsaicin (15mg), Hoodia Gordonii (400mg) and the Hardcore-Xtreme TM Blend [Yerba Mate, Citrus Aurantium, Octopamine HCl, N-acetyl-L-carnitine (680mg).
One nice aspect to see is that the amount of each ingredient – with the exception of the Hardcore-Xtreme TM Blend – has been provided, so you know what’s going into your body. On the more obvious downside is the fact that this diet pill does not contain one ingredient that has been clinically proven to cause weight loss. Furthermore, its combination of ingredients also isn’t safe.
To start, Phenadrine Xtreme contains unproven ingredients, including the famous Hoodia Gordonii, which some say has been used for centuries for appetite suppression. There is no solid scientific evidence that it can do this.
Secondly, this pill contains multiple stimulants or ingredients containing stimulants, including caffeine (ex. natural caffeine and caffeine found in Yerba Mate), and synephrine (a natural occurring stimulant found in citrus aurantium (also known as bitter orange). While caffeine does work on the central nervous system and there is sufficient evidence to prove that it can boost fat burning, particularly when combined with physical activity, these positive effects can come at a cost, especially when combined with synephrine.
First of all, the amount of caffeine contained in a single serving of Phenadrine Xtreme is more than a cup of coffee. This puts users as an increased risk of adverse effects like insomnia, jitters, restlessness, anxiety, headaches, upset stomach. Worse still, synephrine enhances the effects of caffeine – both its good and its bad effects. The FDA warns that combining caffeine with syneprhine can lead to adverse cardiovascular effects, such as high blood pressure, stroke and heart attack, even in healthy individuals.
In essence, Phenadrine Xtreme seems to be an energy pill. It is likely to make you feel alert and may even help with fat burning when combined with exercise, but the potential benefits of this OTC weight loss formula might not outweigh the risks of using these pills for most people. As such, it is highly recommended that you first speak with your healthcare provider before taking this product.
